PANORAMIC VIEWS, RAINFOREST AND SNOWY PEAKS NEAR MELBOURNE
The Yarra Ranges is a local government area in the outer easter suburbs of Melbourne. It’s named after the Yarra Valley and the Dandenong Ranges and has lavish rainforest, impressive mountain peaks and spectacular views.
If you choose the Yarra Ranges as the destination to spend your retirement years, you’ll find a region with both an urban and a rural atmosphere. Most of the residential suburbs are located in the west and the central and eastern areas are more rural.
The region is a popular tourist spot. The Black Spur Drive is a scenic car journey through the beautiful Mountain Ash forest. During winter it’s an especially famous destination because there’s snow at Mount Donna Buang.
Transport is an important factor when choosing a place to retire. The Yarra Ranges is served by the Maroondah Highway, the Burwood Highway and the Warburton Highway, plus the Lilydale and Belgrave railway lines.
Seniors and retirees have an important role in the community. The Council offers services to help them continue living independently and socially connected. It also supports groups across the region to encourage an active lifestyle for the over 50s residents.
