If you’re looking to redecorate, you might be interested in the current colour trends and why shades of green are so popular right now.
In 2020 and 2021, we saw warm hues like turmeric, cinnamon, and sage take centre stage as we embraced home life and comforts while pandemic cocooning.
However, this year the focus seems to be more on the environment, so we’re seeing bolder and warmer colours that are inspired by nature. Green, in different shades, continues its run of popularity as the environmental hero colour.
Dulux have released their colour palettes of the year for 2023 and the trends are set around three distinctive themes ‒ Balance, Connect and Revive.
Balance: to restore a little calm into our lives
The Dulux Balance palette incorporates delicate pastels and ocean-inspired hues such as blues, teals and soft greens. These are accented with blacks and deep garnet.
This gorgeous colour palette draws on the colour of the ocean as well as balmy sunsets. The blues are muted and the greens are either dark or a softer version of olive.
The deep garnet is almost a rust colour and adds a stunning accent to the softer blues and greens; the black is also muted and more a charcoal grey.
Other colours in the pallet include Porcelain, more of a soft pink, and Mornington, which looks like a darker version of Porcelain but is almost a delicate peach. Lighter colours include Casper White Quarter, a restrained soft white with definitely no starkness and Terrace White, which has grey undertones.
Connect: to embrace sustainability and meaning
The Dulux Connect palette is all about embracing nature and incorporating the earthy hues that the natural world does so well. These include muted greens, wheaty yellows, and earthy naturals. Accents are provided by warm deep browns, soft greys and charcoal.
This palette has been created in response to our need for sustainability and the need to reconnect with nature. This is no surprise since everyone is talking about climate change and the need to protect our environment.
With this palette, we are encouraged to bring the colour from nature inside so that our homes reflect all the beauty that nature has to offer.
The colours in this palette are very earthy and mellow. Colours like Wasabi and Whisper White will give our homes a calm and comfortable feel, while the bolder accents of Cinnamon Sand and Basset Brown will add a certain richness to our interiors.
Revive: to lift our spirits and embrace joy and creativity
The Dulux Revive palette is creative and fun. It’s designed to bring some joy and playfulness into our lives. The palette embraces colours in soft blues and lilacs as well as vibrant emerald greens and warm yellows. These are accented with shades of purple and pink.
This palette allows you to unleash your creativity and bring some brighter colours into your life, whether they’re on a feature wall, in wallpaper or in cushions. The colours are much bolder than the other two palettes and blend beautifully to create a bright interior that will make you smile every time you enter the room.
Pharaoh’s Gem is a rich, deep emerald green that blends beautifully with Diorite, a softer green. To this, you could add a splash of Princess Pink or even a touch of Golden Sand if you’re feeling adventurous.
Look to nature to inspire your interiors
All these gorgeous colour palettes reiterate that we should look to nature for inspiration when it comes to redecorating our homes. Warm earthy tones provide a feeling of relaxation and belonging. They remind us of deep forests and rolling desert dunes.
The cooler blues and greens are reminiscent of the ocean while the delicate pinks, yellow, and reds remind us of the changing colours of a sunset as the sky puts on a glorious display at the end of yet another day.
