WELCOME TO THE BARRIER REEF
Spending your retirement years in a place like Bundaberg can be a very rewarding experience, mainly because you’d be living by the glorious Southern Great Barrier Reef.
This coastal city of Queensland is home of the famous Mon Repos beach and its turtle centre, where sea turtles return annually to nest. Offshore is the paradisiac Lady Elliot Island, part of the Great Barrier Reef.
The city has lovely historic buildings and is very flat, which makes it easier to stroll around and explore. You can visit the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens and the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, and, of course you can’t miss the famous Bundaberg Distillery to enjoy a tour and tasting.
Seniors play an important role in this age-friendly community. Bundaberg Regional Council prides itself on working for the wellbeing of older citizens, and promoting participation, connections and positive attitudes towards seniors. There’s a Bundaberg Senior Citizens Centre where over 50s meet for dancing and other social activities.
The region has good healthcare facilities. You can find Bundaberg Base Hospital and the Mater Private Hospital, among other private options.
