The first stage of a new luxurious retirement living community, including 80 apartments and penthouses, has opened within Brisbane’s Indooroopilly Golf Course.
The independent-living community, developed and operated by Brisbane-based Aura Holdings, was named after the homestead, Somerset, built on the original site by district pioneer Henry Thomas in 1900.
Residents share state-of-the-art community facilities including an indoor pool and spa, gymnasium, yoga studio, wine room, library, private dining room, café, outdoor barbecue areas, with consultation suites for allied health professionals.
Retirees Elsie and Harold Neal were amongst the first residents to move into Somerset.
“We knew Somerset was the one for us despite never having lived in an apartment before and downsizing from a large four-bedroom family home,” Elsie said. “It’s so lovely overlooking the trees and the course. Such a nice community of residents has already developed here.’’
Construction on Somerset’s final stage is due to begin this year, providing another 88 apartments and penthouses with stunning views across the parkland course. Prices range from $750,000 to $1.6 million, with prices on application for the penthouses.
Each of the two stages are set across four low-rise buildings.
Somerset has been built by Woollam Constructions and designed by Cox Architecture.
Aura Holdings’ director Mark Taylor said the retirement village had successfully passed the recent Brisbane flood test.
“Somerset was constructed on a high point above previous flood levels and the dam wall was raised one metre. We are pleased that residents and the village remained high and dry during February’s flooding and things worked out as expected,’’ he said.
“Somerset has been one of the western suburbs’ most anticipated developments and provides something very special for retirees.
“Many of our residents are downsizing from their family homes in the area and they don’t want to move away but wish to live in a safe and supportive community without any home maintenance.
“The community is set in the 130ha tranquil space of one of Brisbane’s most prestigious golf courses so close to the city for retirees who wish to live independently with support on hand if needed.’’
