What benefits can you get with a Seniors Card?
One of the perks of getting older is that you can qualify for some benefits. One of those benefits is a Seniors Card.
Seniors Card benefits vary depending on where you live in Australia. Read on to find out all about what benefits you can get in the State or Territory where you live!
New South Wales Seniors (and Senior Savers) Cards
Once you turn 60, you can apply for one of two Seniors Cards that are available if you’re a permanent resident of New South Wales:
- the NSW Seniors Card (if you have worked an average less than 20 hours over the past 12 months, or are retired).
- the NSW Senior Savers Card (if you have worked an average of more than 20 hours over the past 12 months).
Both Cards entitle you to discounts at thousands of businesses and government agencies across New South Wales.
NSW Seniors Card holders are also entitled to a Gold Opal Card that allows you to travel on New South Wales public transport services (buses, trains, light rail and ferries) in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, and the Hunter, Illawarra and Southern Highlands regions for a maximum of $2.50 per day.
You can apply for the NSW Seniors Card or the New South Wales Senior Savers Card on the seniorscard.nsw.gov.au website.
Victorian Seniors Card
Once you turn 60, you can apply for one of two Seniors Cards that are available if you’re a permanent resident of Victoria:
- the Victorian Seniors Card (if you are currently working less than 35 hours per week or are retired).
- the Victorian Senior Business Discount Card (if you are currently working more than 35 hours per week).
Both Cards entitle you to discounts at thousands of businesses and government agencies across Victoria.
In addition Seniors Card holders are entitled to discounted public transport fares and other concessions.

Queensland Seniors Card
Once you turn 60, you can apply for one of three Seniors Cards that are available if you’re a permanent resident of Queensland:
- the Qld Seniors Card (this gives you access to a range of business discounts and concessions on a range of government services).
- the Qld Card + go card (if you also use public transport services regularly, this will give you fare discounts and concessions).
- the Qld Seniors Business Discount Card (this gives you access to a range of business discounts only, not any government concessions).
You can apply for your Qld Seniors Card on the qld.gov.au website. Your application will be assessed and you will be provided with the Card most suited to your needs.
South Australian Seniors Card
Once you turn 60, you can apply for a South Australian Seniors Card if you’re a permanent resident of the State. SA Seniors Card benefits include access to discounts and concessions on a range of business and government services.
You can apply for the South Australian Seniors Card on the seniorscard.sa.gov.au website.
Western Australian Seniors Card
Once you turn 64, you can apply for a Western Australian Seniors Card if you’re a permanent resident of the State. WA Seniors Card benefits include access to a range of business discounts and concessions on government services.
You can apply for the Western Australian Seniors Card on the seniorscard.wa.gov.au website.
Tasmanian Seniors Card
Once you turn 60 and you’re working less than 20 hours per week, you can apply for a Tasmanian Seniors Card if you’re a permanent resident of the State.
Tasmanian Seniors Card benefits include access to a range of business discounts, as well as concessions on a range of government services.
You can apply for the Tasmanian Seniors Card by visiting a Service Tasmania office and supplying three forms of ID.
ACT Seniors Card
Once you turn 60, you can apply for an ACT Seniors Card if you’re a permanent resident of the Territory. ACT Seniors Card benefits include access to discounts and concessions on a range of business and government services.
You can apply for the ACT Seniors Card on the act.gov.au website.
Northern Territory Seniors Card
Once you turn 60, you can apply for a Northern Territory Seniors Card if you’re a permanent resident of the Territory. NT Seniors Card benefits include access to discounts and concessions on a range of business and government services.
You can apply for the NT Seniors Card on the ntseniorscard.org.au website.
