A permanent tribute to one of Australia’s greatest pioneers, Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) founder John Flynn, will officially open on 13 March.
Dignitaries, including Federal member for Chisholm Dr Carina Garland, State Member for Box Hill Paul Hamer, City of Whitehorse Mayor Cr Denise Massoud, and Royal Flying Doctor Service CEO Scott Chapman AM will attend the Grand Opening of the award-winning $277 million John Flynn Retirement Village.
The opening will include the unveiling of a portrait of Flynn by renowned Australian artist Vicki Sullivan, and speeches by Dr Garland, Mr Hamer, and Cr Massoud. A video message from actor Emma Hamilton, star of television drama RFDS will also be played.
It will also provide an opportunity to view priceless artifices belonging to Flynn, including a wooden desk from which plans for the RFDS were made, and a specially commissioned rug featuring a De Havilland Dragon aircraft motif.
The event will be a celebration of the life of John Flynn in a village community committed to honouring and preserving his pioneering legacy for decades to come.
