Ryman Healthcare is in the running for 10 awards at the Asia-Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards in Singapore.
Considered the ‘Oscars of aged care’, the awards attracted more than 300 submissions from across the Asia-Pacific region. In 2023 Ryman won four categories including ‘Innovation of the Year (Response to COVID-19)’ and ‘Operator of the Year (Ageing in Place).’
The New Zealand-based retirement living and aged care company’s Deborah Cheetham village, which officially opened in Ocean Grove, Victoria, last year, is a finalist in ‘Design of the Year - (Interior Design)’
.The shortlisting recognises how village namesake and Yorta Yorta woman Deborah Cheetham’s vision to represent the community’s connection to Indigenous people is reflected in interiors including artwork, textiles and signage.
It also recognises how the contemporary design creates a residential atmosphere which helps serviced apartment and care centre residents to have positive social and health outcomes.
Ryman’s continuum of care model is a finalist in the ‘Operator of the Year – Ageing in Place’ and ‘Innovation of the Year – Ageing in Place’ categories.
The selection highlights the strength of Ryman’s continuum of care offering, which sees independent retirement living fully integrated with serviced apartments, home care services, and low care, high care, and specialist dementia care.

Ryman Australia CEO Cameron Holland said the number of nominations spoke volumes about how well the company’s continuum of care model had resonated in Australia.
“Innovation, when you boil it right down, is really all about solving real problems for real people,” Mr Holland said.
“We’ve always strived to create village communities that have our residents – their hopes, their needs, their relationships – at their heart, and that requires a mindset of constant innovation and evolution.
“To be nominated across so many categories at such a prestigious international awards is really gratifying, and a huge credit to the entire Ryman Australia team.”
The Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards will be announced at the World Ageing Festival in Singapore on May 8, 2024.
