Aveo’s innovative Extreme Weather Readiness Program was a winner in the Asia Pacific regional finals of the 2024 Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Awards, announced during a virtual ceremony this week.
The pioneering program developed by Australia’s leading retirement living provider won Most Original Exercise Program and is now a finalist in the prestigious international awards held in October.
Aveo Chief People and Risk Officer, Josh Little, and Aveo General Manager Risk and Safety, Ling Huang, said it was an honour for Aveo to be recognised in the regional awards on Tuesday night.
“Aveo’s Extreme Weather Readiness Program is unique to Australia’s retirement living sector,’’ Mr Little said. “The award is in recognition of the joint efforts of our Risk and Community Operations teams in preparing for severe weather and safeguarding the interest of Aveo and the residents we serve.
“We have been developing this program since 2020, it focuses on education and awareness, documented procedures, rehearsed scenarios, and continuous refinement to enhance the safety and resilience of our communities during extreme weather events including bushfires, floods, and cyclones.
“It was successfully put into practice last summer during a cyclone in North Queensland when the program provided Aveo’s The Parks Retirement Living community in Cairns with continuous weather alerts for residents and employees.’’
Aveo’s Chief Executive Officer, Tony Randello, congratulated Aveo’s Risk and Community Operations teams for their award-winning and innovative program.
“The Aveo team is committed to supporting initiatives that ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents and employees when faced with the challenges of extreme weather events,’’ he said.
“I extend my gratitude to the Risk and Community Operations teams for their dedication and hard work in making this program such a success.’’
