Resthaven Marion Retirement Living neighbours Mr and Mrs Greg and Lynda Mundy, and Mrs Frouwktje Wood, are all in agreeance – if you are thinking about moving into retirement living, then do it now.
‘There is not one thing here that is not to like,’ Greg says. ‘I am loving every minute of it.’
Greg, 68, and his wife Lynda, 69, moved into Resthaven Marion Retirement Living in March 2024.
‘We had a large property at Strathalbyn which we were struggling with,’ Lynda says. ‘We knew we had to downsize, so we thought why wait, let’s move into retirement living. We had read and heard so many things about people who had waited too long to move, and we didn’t want to end up in that boat.’
Lynda says it was the gardens and the private courtyard that really sold the property for them.
‘I fell in love with a tree,’ Greg laughs. ‘Now that we are here though, the people are fantastic, and the unit is awesome!’
Frouwktje, 80 and her husband Colin, 87, moved into their unit in November 2023.
‘Most recently we had moved from Tasmania,’ Frouwktje says. ‘We had been living in Ardrossan (on the Yorke Peninsula) where Colin grew up, and we decided to go on a holiday to Tasmania. Twenty years later, we decided to come home!’
Frouwktje says the main reason to move back was to be closer to family.
‘It is much easier to be living here than it was for us in our house in Tasmania,’ Frouwktje says. ‘Retirement living suits us very well.’
Frouwktje describes herself as being a very social person and says that the Resthaven Marion retirement community has embraced her love of craft and communal activities.
‘My profession was a teacher and I’ve always loved doing art, sewing and tailoring,’ Frouwktje says. ‘I love interacting with people. I am very happy here.’
Lynda says that, for their situation, moving into retirement living also makes financial sense.
‘We have more money now than we did before the move,’ Lynda says.
‘I’m also more houseproud,’ Greg says. ‘I’ll tell anyone who will listen how good it is!’
