A couple who recently moved to Aveo’s Springfield Vista Retirement Living community from a small town 250km away are loving the benefits of having family, particularly grandchildren, close by.
Jacqui and Robert Hill decided late last year to sell their acreage property at Goomeri, west of Gympie, to be near medical facilities and somewhere offering an enhanced lifestyle. But the appeal of having their youngest family members within easy cuddle distance was a major deciding factor.
“We regularly visited our adult children and grandchildren who live in Springfield and South Ripley, so we knew the area well and what it could offer us,’’ Jacqui says.

“We’ve been able to see more of our grandchildren in the past three months than we did in the last three years,’’ Robert says. “If we weren’t living here, in the past few weeks we wouldn’t have been able to attend our young granddaughter’s birthday, our niece’s 18th and spend time with our newest grandchild.’’
Robert says he is loving the carefree, low-maintenance lifestyle at Springfield Vista, particularly the gym, pool and regular walks through the parklands of nearby Robelle Domaine.
Jacqui, who volunteers several times a week, says the couple are enjoying opportunities to be more active and involved in a range of social activities.
“We knew the time was right to move closer to medical facilities and family. Everything we need is here. Doctors, a hospital and Orion shopping centre are all within walking distance.’’
The couple already have plans for a road trip and overseas travel to take advantage of their new ‘lock up and leave’ lifestyle.
“It’s good to know our home will be safe while we’re away. We couldn’t get away easily when we lived on an acreage property as the lawns would be three feet tall on our return,’’ Robert says. “I don’t miss mowing lawns at all!
“Our new two-bedroom apartment is absolutely beautiful, I can’t fault anything about it. The kitchen is similar in size to the one in our former home.’’
The couple have moved around the country during their married life, but Jacqui says Springfield Vista is their last move. “This is it for us, we are very happy Springfield residents.’’
