The launch of a 172-unit retirement living project in Brisbane’s west has underlined the continued nationwide trend towards placing new seniors housing alongside golf courses.
Aura Holdings has launched its Somerset Indooroopilly project, which sits alongside the Indooroopilly Golf Course, some 7km from Brisbane’s CBD.
The project will provide 168 two or three-bedroom apartments and luxurious four-bedroom penthouses set across four low-rise buildings. Construction will begin on stage one in April on the Meiers Road site, with completion expected in June 2021.
Aura says interest is already high in the project, with more than 200 people attending the official launch event. It is billing the project as “bringing a new level of exclusive independent living for over 60s to Brisbane’s westside”.
Aura Holdings’ director Tim Russell said the project was “on a course and in a suburb that so many people know and love.’’
“Club members don’t want to move away from the area when they retire,” Mr Russell said.
“And what’s not to love living amongst like-minded friends when you can just open your front door and head right out onto such beautiful greens. It doesn’t get much better than actually living on one of Brisbane’s most hallowed courses.’’
Mr Russell said the village also appealed to non-golfers seeking a peaceful, relaxed lifestyle where they could just sit on their balcony to take in views of rolling greens, trees and the lake.
Residents will share a range of high-end community facilities including a pool and spa, gymnasium, wine room, library, private dining room, outdoor barbecue areas, with a hairdresser and consultation suites for allied health professionals.
Golfers will have their own golf club storage and 30 undercover parking spaces for buggies.
Trend towards retirement living alongside golf courses
An increasing number of retirement living projects are popping up on golf courses.
Such an outcome is a win-win - the retirement living developer and consumer gets to access a scenic parkland area while the club gets a financial benefit from the project.
Among the other new golf course-related projects underway in Australia include:
- The Verge at Burleigh Golf Club (Gold Coast, Qld)
- Living Choice Flagstaff Hill (Adelaide, SA)
- Ninth Middle Ridge (Toowoomba, Qld)
- Eden Gardens Estate (Eden, NSW)
