Retirees are increasingly willing to abandon their southern State homes and instead migrate to what is arguably Australia’s best climate in North Queensland.
According to retirement village operator Blue Care, some 50 per cent of incoming residents to its Carlyle Gardens Townsville village come from outside the local area, including from Tasmania, Victoria and NSW.
A significant proportion of incoming residents to Blue Care’s Carlyle Gardens Mackay village also move there from other States.
For both villages, the region’s warm climate is a major drawcard. It isn’t hard to see why.
Townsville’s average minimum temperatures range from 24 degrees in summer to 14 degrees in winter. Meanwhile, Mackay’s minimum temperatures range from 23 degrees during summer to 13-14 degrees during winter.
This compares to Sydney’s minimum average winter temperature of eight degrees and Melbourne’s very chilly winter minimum of six degrees.
Here’s some more information about both of these villages, including why they are attracting so many people from across Australia.
