The Queensland Government has announced it will open its border to regional New South Wales from next week, but it will remain closed to Greater Sydney and Victoria.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says in making the decision she relied on the advice of the government's Chief Health Officer.
The border opening will take place from 1am on Tuesday, 3 November.
"I have always said that I will follow the health advice and this is Dr Young's advice," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"Keeping Queensland safe is also keeping our economy open and I will not risk the safety of Queenslanders."
While it is disappointing Sydney and Victoria remain excluded from Queensland, the partial border re-opening is good news many other NSW-based over 50s given the high level of migration into the Sunshine State by downsizers looking for a warmer climate and new home.
