The popular NSW south coast town of Kiama will soon have a new boutique retirement living option, with not-for-profit provider Fresh Hope securing a development approval for a four-storey apartment building.
Fresh Hope, which is aligned with the Churches of Christ in NSW and the ACT, intends to build the project at Collins St, which is a northern entry point to the Kiama town centre.
The development will offer 56 architect-designed retirement apartments, spread over three and four storey buildings.
Along with ample basement parking, the village community’s residents will enjoy communal courtyard green spaces and roof-terraces as well as a lounge, gym and workshops.
Fresh Hope currently operates eight independent living retirement villages and eight residential care services in regional and metropolitan locations throughout NSW.
Lynn Bailey, Executive General Manager of Fresh Hope Care, said the development will set a new benchmark in retirement apartment living and had been designed to nurture a close-knit and like-minded community spirit.
Being located around two hours south of Sydney, and best known for its blowholes, Kiama is easy to access from the big smoke while at the same time being completely separate from the city hustle and bustle.
In part, this is because of the determination of the local council to continue to retain a quiet country seaside feel, including through preserving pockets of farmland around Kiama and its satellite villages.
Ms Bailey said she expected many future retirement village residents would be able to connect with their families who are taking holidays in, or enjoying weekend trips to, the region.
“Our vision is for retirees to feel free to just be themselves. And what better place than this oh-so well-known and loved coastal township of Kiama, to achieve that,” Ms Bailey said.
