Last month, Lendlease’s Ardency Kennedy Place reached a key construction milestone with the structure now fully complete. Residents are scheduled to move in from early 2023.
Ardency Kennedy Place is the retirement living component of this intergenerational precinct located in this leafy green setting of Bendigo Street, Richmond in Victoria. Ardency is the name given to Lendlease’s collection of high-end retirement living communities for over-55s that feature 5-star amenities, personal services and designer apartments, set in some of Australia’s most sought-after locations. This will be the first Ardency development in Melbourne.
'Topping out' is a time-honoured tradition that takes place when a structure reaches its highest point. In our case, this is when the final roof slab was poured. As per the Scandinavian tradition, a tree was placed on top of the building to bring good will. This was the same Frantoio Olive Tree the team unveiled at the initial construction commencement, which will then be planted in the resident garden on level eight upon completion. The next phase is the internal works and fitting out.
Designed by Bates Smart, Ardency Kennedy Place will comprise 116 spacious one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments, including seven penthouses. It will also feature an onsite café and provedore, as well as a wellness centre that features a pool, gym and yoga studio. Future residents will also benefit from amenities on their doorstep and proximity to restaurants, cafes and boutiques on Swan Street, and easy connection to the rest of the city.
The precinct is targeting a 6-Star Green Star Communities rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, representing a world standard in sustainable design.
Some key construction figures to date:
• 8700 cubic metres concrete poured covering slabs, stairs, walls and columns
• 580 tonnes of reinforced steel (slabs, stairs, walls, precast dowels etc)
• 12 concrete slabs poured including the two basement slabs and the roof
• 4 months of earth and piling works
• 10 months of structure works, and
• 100 workers on site at peak of structure phase
Heather and Ray Bowden will be one of the first to move into Ardency Kennedy Place in early 2023.
It took them two years to find the right residence to suit their lifestyle. One of their key criteria was a spacious apartment within close proximity to the city. To Ray, it was a question of security first. A place where there is a concierge, well off the street and a range of activities throughout the week that are going to add a lot to their lifestyle.
“We have looked at quite a few apartments. We have purchased a three-bedroom plus study, which internally is 153 square meters and that suits our lifestyle. Ardency Kennedy Place has all the facilities, including the outdoor gardens which other places do not. This decision is an enrichment of our lives, and we can’t wait to move in.” Heather says.
Two-bedroom apartments are currently selling from $1million.
